Sugar, Sugar, A Bunch of Carbs. OH! And Sugar.
These pictures came from a reader of The Diet Doctor‘s website after attending the ‘Diabetes Epidemic in California – What Can Cities Do?‘ conference about a week ago.
I don’t know, how about leading by example and not serving sugary treats and carb loaded junk food that both lead to diabetes. Just sayin…
The worst part? California made headlines back in March after a study showed that 46% of all of its adults have either undiagnosed diabetes or prediabetes (read about it here). Really California Public Health Advocates? This is the best you can do?
Just to note, if you scroll down to the bottom of their conference invite, you’ll see that they are sponsored by two pharmaceutical companies with interests in selling you insulin. How convenient!
This, of course, is hardly the only example of hypocrisy and poor leadership in the medical field. How about the European Obesity Summit back in June, where during a break they served mini vanilla donuts, high sugar fruits and fruit juice? (source)
Finally, the last ridiculous example I’ll leave you with of how totally clueless our medical industry has become, is lunch at the world’s largest conference on diabetes research, EASD, in Vienna in 2014. Everyone received a brown bag lunch containing, well, things that will lead you to diabetes.
It’s just yet one more example of how disconnected and clueless they are. The very ones trying to “figure it out” are the ones telling us how to be healthy.
If you have prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, just skip the diabetes education classes sponsored by the ADA and learn more about Low Carb, High Fat diets instead. You’ll thank me later!
