5. Food Inc. (2008)
What’s it about?
Food Inc. exposes the huge control that industry has on food manufacturing and policy – from the farm to the shelves, and all the way to the white house. This film tells the story of how we got to the strange, food-like products you find on the shelves at the supermarket. Where does your food come from?
Why’d it make the list?
Food Inc. launched the careers of many important health advocates you see today. A classic (but modern) film, and a perfect introduction to understanding food production in America. You can’t look at supermarket products the same ever again after watching this documentary – and you’ll even find yourself wondering what percentage of the population have bodies made of mostly corn. This documentary is the ideal guide to healthier food choices for someone just beginning to improve their health, but watching it again after years I still found surprising reminders along the way. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and watch it tonight! It’s that good.
